Founded in 2026, Umibōzu Research takes its name from Umibōzu, a "yōkai" or supernatural phenomenon in Japanese folklore. Often depicted as a sea monster, Umibōzu translates to "sea monk" and is said to emerge from calm seas on moonlit nights.

In legend the yōkai appears in many forms. We subscribe to the interpretation that Umibōzu serves as an omen for fishermen – forewarning of storms, danger, and unseen threats lurking in quiet waters.

In the same spirit, Umibōzu Research exists to surface what others overlook. Through our investigative research, we aim to identify the risks – and opportunities – hidden in markets, helping investors confront what lies ahead before conditions turn.
